Inspire to Learn Training Ltd provides high quality training and consultancy advice to the Early Years and childcare profession across Lancashire and the surrounding area.

Our experienced and inspirational trainers have delivered statutory courses on behalf of many Local Authorities including Lancashire County Council, Blackburn with Darwen, Blackpool, Wigan, Salford, Trafford, Tameside & Rochdale.

With specialist knowledge, skills and experience, our trainers have facilitated a wide range of statutory courses which promote effective quality provision and services underpinned by the EYFS 2014 and promoting the UN RIGHTS OF THE CHILD.

We also provide guidance and consultancy for any aspects of childcare provision which includes start up businesses and pre and post OFSTED.

We believe in building an atmosphere of mutual respect, trust and honesty within every environment. Mandy Monk

A qualified Early Years Practitioner with over 25 years of experience working within a range of early years settings. She has extensive experience from working in a number of roles including Nursery Practitioner, School Practitioner, Child-minding Network Coordinator, College Lecturer Early Years & Health & Social Care, Trainer for CACHE & CITY GUILDS Child Care & Young Peoples Workforce, Safeguarding and Child Protection Officer, Safeguarding Facilitator for Levels 1 & 2 and Foster Carer.

Mandy has worked with, and alongside, a number of local authorities including Lancashire, Wigan, Salford, Tameside, Trafford, Blackpool and Blackburn with Darwen, delivering a wide range of training and staff development packages including Safeguarding, Child Protection, Behaviour Management and many other current aspects of the EYFS.

She has also worked as an associate Safeguarding Trainer and consultant working for a number of training providers throughout the North West, including being an Approved Safeguarding Level 1 & 2 Trainer for Lancashire County Council in 2012.

Cheryl Valentine


Throughout Cheryl’s career she has worked together with a range of professionals and supported babies, children, young people and their families in a range of settings.  This has also included being a personal assistant for a special needs adult, with a range of complex special needs.

In 2006 Cheryl moved into the area of child protection and was employed by Wigan Local Authority being responsible for up to 30 schools in the area.  Cheryl, through consultations, provided support, knowledge and guidance on how to promote effective safeguarding and child protection for children and young people.  This role also included safer working practice, information and advice for ‘whistleblowing’ so the team understands the importance of their roles and duty to reduce the likelihood of mistakes and unsafe practices which can lead to complaints and allegations.

She was promoted in 2011 with a new position in the newly established Gateway Team to work more directly with the families in specific local areas (Leigh, Lowton and Golborne) to provide advice guidance and implementation of early help/intervention CAF and work with other agencies to promote and support integrated working and services.

Cheryl has also worked as an associate Safeguarding Trainer and consultant working for a number of training providers throughout the North West, including being an Approved Safeguarding Level 1 & 2 Trainer for Lancashire County Council in 2012

Glen Marsden

Glen is a qualified Practising Counsellor to Diploma level.  She has worked within the Private, Public and Voluntary sector for over 20 years.  Glen specialises in working with children, young people and their families to address issues relating to Mental Health and emotional difficulties.

With a Certificate in Education and TDLB qualification; she has moderated courses for MOCN and developed training courses along with the programme manager.

Glen has worked within St Helens Youth Service, delivering accredited training and personal development programmes to adults and young people.  These included a variety of courses and she also set up and delivered a very successful Counselling Provision for the Youth Service.

During her eight years working in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services NHS, Glen has delivered training to a variety of professionals including junior doctors, students at JMU and Edge Hill around Mental Health, Self-Harm and Suicidal Ideation.

Glen currently delivers Safeguarding Children Training to several schools and agencies in Wigan as an associate trainer, as well as working with Bolton Council Children’s Services dealing with young people aged 8-18 years regarding behavioural/emotional difficulties that may impact on criminal behaviour and to address the possible consequences.  This work includes collaboration with their families along with the Youth Justice Service, education, Social Care, Health and CAMHS.

Danielle Brown

An early year’s practitioner for over 17 years fulfilling different roles and now the manager of a successful private day Nursery situated in Lancaster.

During these years Danielle has become a parent and also gained an enormous amount of experience and skills working as a team and amongst other services and agencies to support children and effective quality provision.

She is also a volunteer as a school governor and enjoys participating towards a local community school, contributing and supporting the school through Ofsted inspections and promoting community cohesion activities.

Continual professional Development is an important aspect of her role as a manager and Danielle enjoys attending and delivering courses which promote and enhance quality practice and provision which helps to develop practitioner’s skills knowledge and understanding.

Sharon Cowan-Stout

A qualified Early Years Leader with 27 years experience of developing and leading early years services. Sharon has worked at a variety of levels, beginning her career as a nursery nurse, moving to Pre-five Senior, Deputy Head and for 16 years successfully undertook several Head of Centre posts, leading services through significant periods of change. Sharon has extensive experience in relation to Additional Support for Learning, having successfully led a large early years provision which effectively supported children with additional support needs, including the leadership of a specialist integrated unit.

Most recently Sharon has worked at a strategic level within a Scottish local authority in an advisory role as an Early Years Education & Childcare Development Officer. Sharon has worked closely with both local authority and private sector early years settings to:

  • Improve quality,  through establishing effective quality assurance processes.
  • Support the development of robust improvement and change management approaches.
  • Develop effective practices which encourage children’s ownership of their own learning.
  • Develop children’s understanding of their rights and responsibilities as a citizen.
  • Develop the quality of the curriculum, early learning experiences and opportunities for children to ensure that the individual learning needs and interests of children are effectively supported, developed and extended.
  • Built staff capacity, knowledge, understanding and skill.

Sharon has developed and delivered a variety of training programmes, including child protection, planning for individual learning, developing an effective partnership with parents, developing a family centred approach to early learning and childcare and at a strategic level.

Sharon is a committed early years professional, who believes passionately in inclusion, children’s rights, quality improvement and in the continuous professional development of a skilled early years workforce, to ensure that children and their families experience the highest quality early learning and childcare possible.

Alison Rogerson

Alison is registered with The HCPC and is a qualified social worker; who has worked in the child protection field which has given her an extensive knowledge of current child care legislation; and the experience of working directly with children and their families. She is highly experienced in carrying out both Initial and Core
Assessments; preparing reports and giving evidence to the Family courts.

Alison has run her own training company since 2002 delivering training contracts on behalf of a number of Local Authorities. She is committed to providing reliable, high quality, up to date training on a wide range of topics and specialises in Safeguarding Children; basic awareness of signs and symptoms and national and local procedures, as well as a wide range of related topics covering Integrated Working; CAF Training; Safer Working Practice and Professional abuse; the Child Protection System; child protection legislation, policy writing, procedures; behaviour management and training on more specific area issues such as Domestic Abuse and Disability.

Furthermore, Alison has also been working as an Independent Social Worker for Family Care Group, based at Bamber Bridge, Preston. During this time, she has
undertaken Foster Carer Assessments using both the BAAF Form F and the Fostering Network formats and guidance.
